Linux version of the iPhone

As Apple launches its iPhone today, a company attempting to build a similar touchscreen-based phone around an open, user-extensible Linux OS has acknowledged significant delays. OpenMoko hopes to ship its first "mass market" Neo1973 phone in October.

The phone will come complete with many great features including wifi. This means you can connect to a wireless hotspot and talk for free over the internet, upload videos, images, blog postings.

This phone will explode with plenty of new features from the opensource community and Orbit8 plans to be part of its development.

Orbit8's goal is to give you freedom to share information anywhere. We're working to expand our wireless network. In addition, we'll start expanding the devices that allow you to connect. No more laptops to lug. It will all be in the palm of your hand.
